So this week I was lucky enough to get free tickets to a preview screening of the new Transformers movie, something I was obsessed by as a kid. Although I saw the film on Tuesday I've only just gotten around to writing about it, been a crazy week :)
So what was it like? I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would, I knew things had been changed from the original series and I was upset about some of them but in the end it was still a great film. They've totally messed up Megatron and some of the other characters in comparision to the original but thankfully they kept Optimus Prime mostly the same. They also kept most of the original characters in there which was a nice surprise. Ironhide, Bumblebee, Ratchet and Jazz are all there.
The film is mostly a comedy I'd say with lots of humor that I don't think kids will fully get, it's obviously aimed at my generation, the 80's kids who were hooked on the original. There's also a lot of spectacular explosions and special effects. It's definitely worth seeing even for a die hard fan because although some things have been changed, enough of the original is still there for the nostalgia to work. I went into this film wanting to hate it and I just couldn't, that says something about how good it is.
The best thing for me was that they got the original voice actor to do Optimus Prime and when I heard the immortal words "Autobots... Roll Out" my heart melted like the true geek that I am.
Even if you aren't familar with the cartoons, this film is very entertaining and well worth seeing, you won't be disappointed I don't think.
F rating: FFFF (would have been five F's but they buggered up Megatron)
